Datapaq® Furnace Tracker for Slab and Billet Reheat Process
Unravel the Mysteries of Your Process
- Accurately measure surface and core temperatures to calibrate furnace control software
- Immediate results with real-time data
- Optimize the furnace, saving energy
- Up to 20 thermocouples for better temperature uniformity data
Designed for the harshest environments, this Datapaq Furnace Tracker System enables you to get accurate in-process product core and surface temperature profiles from within slab and billet reheat furnaces in real time.
The Datapaq Furnace Tracker System from Fluke Process Instruments features the Datapaq TP6 data logger, choice of phased evaporative thermal barriers, thermocouples, and our intuitive Insight™ Software to create a complete profiling solution. Each furnace tracker can be detailed to fit into a cut out of the slab or, if height permits, they can be placed on the slab. Meanwhile, systems for billet profiling are designed to mount to the end of the billet.
Data Logger
The Datapaq TP6 is the perfect solution for the most demanding high-temperature profiling applications with a 316-grade machined stainless-steel case and IP67 rating. Once combined with the Datapaq Insight™ or Datapaq Insight Furnace Surveying software you can display information from the data logger in real time via the optional Radio Frequency (RF) system or via standard USB/Bluetooth connections.
- Available in 10 and 20 channel configurations and two case styles
- Water resistant (IP67 rated)
- Communication via USB or Bluetooth
- Real time telemetry via USB, RF telemetry and Bluetooth
- Alkaline, NiMH and Lithium battery options
- Compatible with the Datapaq Insight™ for mobile application
Thermal Barriers
The Datapaq Evaporative Thermal Barriers from Fluke Process Instruments contain two layers of insulation, which slow down the passage of heat and create a temperature gradient within the system. The first insulation layer consists of an alumina fiber blanket that protects the barrier metal work from excess temperature.
The second insulation layer is protected within the metalwork of the thermal barrier; this is a microporous insulation that reduces heat energy entering the central water tank. In the tank, water slowly boils off to create a stable environment for the data logger. To ensure long service life the metal casing features floating plate technology that minimizes distortion. An easy-to-use tray holds the thermocouples in order as they connect to the datalogger.
Software
Every Furnace Insight™ software product is designed to convert your raw data into meaningful information that can be acted on. All three software options provide a clear user interface, context sensitive help screens and wizards to assist novice users. The ability to change the language and email results directly from software enables you to share information across the plant and across the world, whether you’re on a computer or mobile device.

- Steel slab reheating
Verifying the drop out temperature of steel slabs prior to rolling is critical. Temperature measurements from up to 20 thermocouples provides a full picture of both surface and core temperatures, which can then be used to calibrate furnace control software and optimize furnace settings. - Steel billet reheating
Because steel billets are reheated prior to processes like piercing to create pipes, rolling beams or extruding for wire, it is critical that temperatures are uniform along the entire length of the billet, both on the surface and at the core. Our Furnace Tracker Systems are designed to be fitted to the end of a shortened billet and move with the item through the furnace. This system is optimized for narrow widths, enabling the system to pass through to measure and record true process conditions.
| Special and Custom Solutions The experienced engineering team at Fluke Process Instruments has produced numerous thermal barriers for applications, ranging from temperatures of -40°C to 1350°C (-40°F to 2462°F). They can design a complete solution for your specific requirements. Contact us to request information about a custom Datapaq thermal profiling solution. |
| Radio telemetry link
The Datapaq TP6 radio telemetry system utilizes high temperature radio-frequency technology to allow data transmission from the data logger in real time. As the system travels through the process, product and process temperature data can be viewed, analyzed and reported instantaneously. This technology can be applied to monitoring key thermal processes in most industrial heating applications. |
